Cloughleigh Youth Club was founded in 1986. The club met in a prefab for a number of years before moving to the community centre in the heart of the Cloughleigh area. It meets every Thursday night from 8:00 to 10:00pm. We have a very simple club contract the main rule is that everyone is respected regardless of race, colour or creed.

The Club has 30 members and three leaders. The leaders take a specific area of responsibility each year to ensure that the club continues to develop and benefits the members. Each year the club members elect three senior members to assist in the running of the club. Their job would include the programme planning with the adult leaders and the setting up of the activities on a club night. The club programme is wide and varied as well as the usual games the members interests include music as well as a wide range of sporting activities, many of our members both past and at present have represented their county and indeed their country in sporting activities.

The club programme also reflects the issues that affect young people through the use of discussion based programmes, such as personal and social development, copping on and programmes that educate young people to the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The youth club participates in all Clare Youth Services organised activities and over the years have been to the national finals of debating, freestyle, hip hop and quiz.

The members of the club also participate in overseas exchanges. Cloughleigh Youth Club is a club for, and of, the community and the members assist in a number of activities in the area including the organising of discos for younger members of the community and each year staffing a summer camp for twenty five children between the ages of seven and ten with assistance from the staff of Clare Youth Service.

Membership: Currently the Youth Club has thirty members and 3 leaders.

Activities: Sporting Activities (Soccer, Uni Hoc, Dodge Ball), Art (Dress Making, Glass Painting, Clay Modelling, T Shirt Printing) Dancing (Freestyle, Hip Hop) Debating and Quizzes. We also carry out a number of Development Education Workshops each year.
