Coolmeen Youth Club opened its doors in 1984 and has continued uninterrupted since, which is a tribute to the commitment of the leaders that have been involved over the years.
Members join in their first year in secondary school and many continue to attend club up to and including 5th years, so we usually have about twenty-five members. They are drawn to the club, as it is an opportunity to meet with their friends in and out of school setting. It is on Friday nights and is a good end to a long week. Club happens on average every two weeks during the school term but this is not a regularised programme since we may meet three weeks running and then take a break for a few weeks.
We aim to keep the programme varied and busy. Our home base is the GAA Clubhouse and there we provide activities such as fun games, charades, Chinese whispers and more active games like leg goals, and skipping relays. We have included a theme evening in the past with traditional and modern games for Halloween. We slow things down with table quizzes and bingo.
Activities are not limited to home base, we are renowned for our trips engaging in external activities, from cinema to bowling, go-Karting and horse riding. One particularly enjoyable trip was the mystery tour that we organised with members being highly entertained at the American Circus.
The club has had two leaders who have both received awards for their work in the club by the National Youth Federation.
Membership: Year on year, the youth club has approximately 25 members.
Activities:Cinema, Bowling, Go-Karting, Horse Riding, Charades, various sporting activities.
