Kilnaboy has a long history of youth club activities from the late 1960s up to present time. The club plays a pivotal role in the life of the young people of Kilnaboy. This is due to tehefforts of the members and leaders and the support of the community. Kilnaboy Youth Club is affiliated to the Clare Youth Service which plays an important part in the development of the club.
The club's involvement in the cultural life of the parish consists of the following: hosting coffee mornings for Cahercalla Hospice and the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, bag packing for Kilnaboy school and Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland. Assisting Kilnaboyo Athletic Club with the staging of the Sonny Murphy Memorial 10k road race.
Membership
Membership is open to individuals who attended school in Kilnaboy N.S. or who are resident in Kilnaboy. Members must be attending secondary school to be eligible for membership.
Activities & Events
The club caters for the needs of 50 members with the assistance of 28 leaders and the support of parents. Along with the normal youth club activities, the club goes bowling, attends other youth club discos and participate in club exchanges and takes part in county competitions run by Clare Youth Service.
Major Annual Events
On Christmas morning the story of the Nativity is re-enacted by Kilnaboy Youth Club before 9:30am mass, complete with donkey, cows, sheep and lambs. A local family provide the all-important baby Jesus with the members forming the remaining cast of Mary, Joseph, Shepherds and Angels.
During March organise a special youth Mass with the members doing readings, offertory gifts, intercession prayers and providing music and choir.
Training & Development
Club members and leaders benefit immensely from the many training modules delivered by Clare Youth Service as part of their support to individual youth clubs. Provision of such training ensures that the club remains relevant to young people in a changing social environment.
