S-Club was set up in February 2004 in Shannon. It was Clare's first Special Needs Youth Club. Members of the community noted that there was a need for an outlet for young people with special needs in the area where they could meet up with other youths in a safe environment. For this reason a local counsellor, along with 5 other members of the community, established S-Club in February 2004 and it has been running successfully every Wednesday night since then. Currently there are 26 volunteers and 6 members, with the hope always of expanding the membership.
The members' ages range from 12 upwards and all are welcome! There are 3 set nights in the youth club, sports night, arts and crafts night and music and drama night. Some of the activities overall include: bowling, karaoke nights, card making, puppet making and many, many more! At the moment the drama group are producing a play which will run for parents and friends in February. S-Club takes place every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00pm in the Respond Centre in Shannon.
