"I'll be there next year because it's a full month of torture and enjoyment"

Clare Youth Service summer camps have been running in Ennis and Shannon for over thirty years. In that time they have catered for tens of thousands of children and nurtured the volunteer leaderships skills of thousands of young adults aged 17 and over.

The camps offer active and creative fun for young people aged 9 to 13 years. Each day promises action, excitement and the chance to make new friends in a safe environment.

Camps run over two weeks and are held in July with registration normally in early June. Parents and Guardians are advised to watch this site, see local press or contact us for dates and registration details for next summer's camps as places are issued on a first come first served basis.

If you're over 17, have a good sense of humour, are open-minded, willing to train and not afraid of hard teamwork, we're looking for you to become a volunteer leader.

You will receive training that covers three main areas - Team Building, Leadership Skills and Activity Presentation Skills. Voluntary leaders are monitored and supported throughout their work on the schemes.

Your role will include:

  • Running and organising activities
  • Supervising young people
  • Evaluating your experiences
  • Responsibility for safety and welfare of young people
  • Opportunity to participate in volunteer events in evenings after camp ends

Leadership opportunities on Clare Youth Service summer camps have proven to be significant milestones in many people's lives. There are many experiences - hard work, camaraderie, leadership, finding out about yourself, skills development. Previous leaders point to both the fun and the learning opportunities.

"For sure, I'll be back next year. I really enjoyed myself and loved working with the children"

"I'll be back! It was rewarding work, the many new friends I made, makes all the hard work worth it"

"I have learned a lot about myself and others. This year I met a lot of people and got to know them. Some I have misjudged in the past turned out to be really sound. I think working as one big team was great - everyone had something to contribute."

"I'll be there next year because it's a full month of torture and enjoyment"

"It has been the best thing I have ever done"
