Services – Youth Work

"Youth Work is a planned systematic non-formal educational process which assists and enhances the personal and social development of young people. It is complementary to the school and in Ireland is implemented primarily by voluntary youth organisations and groups"   - Youth Work Act 2001

Within Clare Youth Service the aim of Youth Work is to assist in the personal, social and spiritual development of all young people. Fundamental to this is a belief that adults and young people should work collectively to identify needs and possible solutions.

Youth Work programmes, clubs and projects are delivered by volunteers, in many towns and villages throughout County Clare, and by staff from central locations in Ennis, Shannon and Kilrush. In addition certain programmes are offered on an outreach basis where specific needs are identified.

Programmes are open to all teenagers however many have specific age groups including under fifteens, over fifteens and over eighteens.

The common aims of these projects, clubs and programmes are:
  • The provision of support for young people on an individual basis.
  • The active involvement of young people in the design, development and delivery of all projects and clubs.
  • The provision of relevant and effective responses to identified needs.
